Dinner Key Island Cleanup ICC2026

Dinner Key Island Cleanup ICC2026

Join Project Anchor Down for a welcoming, hands-on conservation event as part of the 2026 International Coastal Cleanup.

Volunteers will meet at the Seminole Boat Ramp before traveling by boat to the Dinner Key Islands, to remove marine debris from this unique Biscayne Bay habitat. Volunteers who remain on shore will help clean around the Seminole Boat Ramp.

This cleanup supports the global International Coastal Cleanup effort coordinated by Ocean Conservancy, with VolunteerCleanup.org serving as the local ICC partner. By participating, volunteers will help protect Biscayne Bay, support healthier coastal and coral ecosystems, and contribute to a broader community effort to understand and reduce marine debris.

T-shirts with this year’s marine animal theme, the Humpback whale, are available for purchase.  Order before August 30 if you want to guarantee your shirt arrives before the cleanup.

The Miami-Dade ICC is made possible by the generous support of our strategic level sponsors Ocaquatics, City of Miami Commissioner Damian Pardo, and Terra Group, with additional support from Climate First Bank, City of Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins, and PADL.

Cleanup begins: 9:00 AM
Expected conclusion: Approximately 11:00–12:00 PM
Meeting location: Coconut Grove Seminole Boat Ramp
Address: 2900 S Bayshore Dr, Miami, FL 33133

Please arrive by 8:45 AM for check-in and the required safety briefing before cleanup activities and boat transportation begin.

Registration is required

All participants must register in advance through VolunteerCleanup.org.

Boat access is available only to registered volunteers and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The island cleanup has capacity for approximately 60 volunteers. An additional land-based cleanup will be available near the boat ramp for late arrivals, volunteers who do not receive a boat assignment, and participants who prefer to remain on shore.

Walk-up participants cannot be guaranteed boat transportation.

Boat transportation and island conditions

Boats will transport volunteers from the boat ramp to the Dinner Key Islands in groups of approximately 12 passengers per trip. Life Jackets will be available to all volunteers during boat transport, and a safety briefing will be given during the transport to the island.

There are no restroom facilities on the islands, and return trips to shore during the cleanup will generally be limited to emergencies. Volunteers traveling to the island must be physically capable of boarding a boat, maintaining their balance, walking over uneven outdoor terrain, and participating safely in cleanup activities.

Participants with limited mobility, significant balance concerns, or concerns about boat travel are welcome to participate in the land-based cleanup.

Personal flotation devices will be available for safety. Parents or guardians bringing children should bring a properly fitted life jacket for each child.

Although there is no formal minimum age, the island portion is best suited for volunteers approximately 14 years of age or older. Parents and guardians should use their judgment when deciding whether the boat and island cleanup are appropriate for younger participants.

A safety briefing will take place before activities begin. Volunteers should not personally handle needles, unidentified containers, hazardous materials, dangerous broken glass, injured wildlife, or other potentially unsafe objects.
