Pick Up For Cancer at Larry and Penny Thompson Park ICC2026 Cleanup
Join us for the 41st International Coastal Cleanup — the world's largest one-day volunteer effort for our oceans and waterways! Show your commitment to reducing marine debris alongside millions of volunteers across the globe. Miami-Dade’s participation, organized by VolunteerCleanup.org and Clean Miami-Dade, features 65+ cleanups all over the county with 4,000 volunteers. This specific cleanup is being led by Pick Up For Cancer Inc.
Bring any recyclable items such as aluminum cans, copper wire, old keys, lead-acid batteries, e-waste, or other accepted metals for recycling to earn extra volunteer hours! Bring your friends, family, and positive energy as we work together to make our parks cleaner and our community stronger. Every helping hand makes a difference!
T-shirts with this year’s marine animal theme, the Humpback whale, are available for purchase. Order before August 30 to ensure your shirt arrives before the cleanup.

Important details:
- Registration is required to participate in the cleanup.
- A paper waiver for Miami-Dade County Parks will be provided on the day of the event. ** However, if you are under 18 and coming without a parent or guardian, you must have a parent/guardian print and sign the waiver HERE in advance, and bring it with you to the cleanup.
- We will provide garbage bags, gloves, reacher grabber tools, reflective vests, and data collection cards. Community Service hours are also provided.
- Please bring water in a reusable container. Let’s reduce waste and refuse single-use disposable plastic water bottles.
- Download the Ocean Conservancy’s CleanSwell app to participate in the Citizen Science activity to log, tally, and measure the impact of your cleanup.
- Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. This is a primarily flat and grassy type of site, and you should wear closed-toed shoes during the cleanup. Avoid flip-flops or sandals due to potentially stepping on hazardous items or trash.
- Sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen are recommended.
- If you have your own reusable working or gardening-type gloves, bring them. We will be providing gloves but cannot guarantee they will be in your size.
- Some volunteers like to use a bucket during a cleanup. Ask a local restaurant, bakery, or donut shop if they get food items in 5-gallon buckets they'd be willing to donate for your cleanup!
