Biscayne National Park BAYNANZA Beach Cleanup (Offshore)
Come out and experience your national park for Baynanza 2026!
Note: each *individual* participant must be age 16 and over.
Meet time is at 8:00am, Saturday, April 11th at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center at Biscayne National Park. The address is: 9700 SW 328th Street, Homestead, FL 33030.
This volunteer experience is best suited for volunteers with a moderate to high level of physical fitness and balance. Work includes wading in waist deep water, walking over sharp rocks and/or through mucky sediment, bending down and lifting heavy objects, prolonged standing on moving boats, getting in and out of boats from waist deep water, working in buggy conditions, heat, and sun for 5+ hours and will be strenuous.
What we will be doing:
After the morning's orientation and safety brief, we will boat across Biscayne Bay (~30 minutes) to the oceanside of Elliott Key. Will anchor in waist-deep water and wade onto the beach. You must be comfortable with wading in knee-deep water on soft, mucky bottom. We will perform marine debris removal from the beach and surrounding mangrove shoreline. Once done, we will wade the trash bags and bins back onto the boat, return to the mainland and weigh and dispose of the debris. Site selection will depend upon weather & water conditions.
We will provide:
Life jackets, trash bags and collection buckets, bug spray, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, first-aid kit, gloves for hand protection (however, these are a one-size-fits-all deal, so if you have your own that you prefer, like garden or work gloves, please feel free to bring those), dive booties (on a limited basis, as sizing allows), datasheets, and a water cooler for water refills.
Please bring:
Close-toed shoes that can get wet are mandatory (this is a safety requirement), bathing suit, long-sleeved clothing that can get wet, hat, sunglasses, reusable water bottle, and enough food to last you the day.
Due to boat capacity, this experience is capped at 12 volunteers. If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your reservation so others may sign up!
NOTE: This is the offshore version of BNP's Baynanza event. There is a separate sign up for the paddle craft/shore-based event.
